Fatherhood · My own words
The Chapter I’m Proudest Of
Of all the experiences I have lived through, being a father is one of the chapters I hold closest.
I have built businesses, worked in promotions and entertainment, helped young people, and seen opportunities come and go. But none of those experiences has meant more than the years I have spent raising my son.
Being a father has meant showing up—not just on the days when things are going well, but during the uncertain moments when a child needs someone beside him. I know the importance of that presence because I have spent a lifetime understanding what it feels like when guidance is missing or when the world becomes bigger than a young person knows how to handle.
I have watched my son grow into a young man with his own dreams, his own decisions, and a future that belongs to him. There is a kind of pride in that which is hard to put into words.
When I look at him, I do not see an accomplishment I can put on a résumé. I see a relationship I have tried to honor through years of responsibility, patience, and love.
I cannot get back everything I lost when I was young. But I have been able to give my son something that matters deeply to me: a father who is present and committed to him.
I want to be remembered for more than the hardest chapter of my life. And if there is one chapter I hope my son knows by heart, it is that I was there.
I do not tell this story for the approval of people who have already made up their minds about me. I tell it because fatherhood is part of who I am, and because the life I have lived has been much bigger than any one headline.
There is more to share in The Making of Young Lace. But this part of the story deserves to be known on its own.
